S-cripture:
Jeremiah 26:8
But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized him and said, “You must die!
O-bservation:
Jeremiah told the leaders and people of his day everything the Lord had commanded him to say. As soon as he finished and it was time for the altar call, they said, “Let’s kill him!”
A-pplication:
What do you do when you have absolutely done exactly what God has told you to do and you are wholeheartedly rejected? This passage of scripture is an example of what I call a “A Lethal Altar Call.” In other words, not everything the Lord asks us to do will work out the way we think it should. But just because your work efforts for the Lord and immediate outcomes seem to be a complete disaster doesn’t mean you’re out of the will of God. When we read this piece of history from Scripture, we would all agree that Jeremiah was in the will of God. But conventional wisdom at the time said, “You’re an idiot!” By the way, they didn’t kill him for this. Still, I’d rather be in God’s will even though sometimes it could be lethal.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me fear You more than man. Amen
