Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Kings 16:2
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
O-bservation:
Ahaz had a godly father by the name of Jotham and was succeeded after his death by his son Hezekiah who was a man of God. But here, in the middle of two righteous Kings, stands Ahaz, a wicked king. It causes one to ask, “Where Did He Come From?” We know where he came from as far as his father and mother are concerned, but how could he be so rotten morally and raise such a godly son as King Hezekiah? He was wicked in his practices and failed at every turn to be the man he was raised to be.
A-pplication:
Today is the Fourth of July in my country. Historically it has been a day of celebration. But because of a lack of godly leadership for a number of years in this country, we have, as a nation, fallen spiritually to the point that spiritual authority of any kind is ridiculed and mocked. If one takes a moral stand, he or she is now called a “Hater,” by those who are living in sin. In fact sin is rarely mentioned from many of the pulpits of this country because the nation is wallowing in hopelessness. It’s not a sin problem, they argue, it’s a despair problem. But may I interrupt such talk and remind you of Ahaz? He had everything going for him, but he yielded to the crazy leadership of his contemporaries, who were heathen kings. He wanted a government like the other losers of his era, but that was in direct rebellion to the God of his forefathers. He never did get right with God and died as a young man. I believe we still have time as a nation to turn back to God and right the ship. Don’t lose hope my friend. God is on His throne.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This Am, I’m praying for my country. I’m asking you today to bring conviction upon our cold hearts and woo us back into a relationship with you. I need you, and we need you now, more than ever! Please come and revive us again. Amen
