Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
O-bservation:
St. Paul talked about setting out with a goal to win the prize as an athlete would. He then said the only way to do that was to take control of the flesh and bring it under the control of his will and not the will of the flesh. That way, Paul said, “After I have preached the gospel to others, I won’t leave the event and be a phony.” He was saying, “Whatever It Takes, Live Right!”
A-pplication:
The past two years of pandemic have been a secret revealer of many we have held dear. Moral failures and financial indiscretions, and things once hidden have been exposed to the public in ways that are destroying people’s careers, families, and lives. What has happened? I believe the main thing that has happened is hypocrisy is being revealed. For Christians caught up in such things, it resembles the way of the Pharisees, when they put heavy loads on the people. Loads they themselves could not live up to. Paul spoke to this in this very passage. He talked of physically taking hold of his own body to overcome his own flesh! It’s an ever-present reminder that we, as “Followers of Jesus,” must, “Whatever It Takes, Live Right!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I want to live the way You want me to live! I need Your help right now. And I’ll say this again tonight and tomorrow morning. I need Your help! Amen
