Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Jeremiah 8:22
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?
O-bservation:
Gilead was in Jericho of Palestine. There was a tree there known as the mastic tree and produced a balm that had many healing virtues. This balm was quite costly and was preferred throughout the Middle East as a well-known healing agent. But now, it is used metaphorically by the prophet. He asks, “Is there, ‘No Balm In Gilead?” The people of God had become so sinful and so like all of the other heathen nations that worshipped gods such as Baal that there seemed to be no hope and no spiritual balm to heal their wounds, which had resulted from their sins.
A-pplication:
Thankfully today, there is a Balm in Gilead, and his name is Jesus. This passage was taken from the Old Testament, which was directed unsuccessfully by the law. In time Jesus came as heavens Balm of Gilead, and through his shed blood on the cross of Calvary, he produced through his own sacrifice the balm (his blood) that can wash away all sin and heal all disease. People continue to seek answers in all the wrong places today, and yet by way of just a simple prayer, they can find Jesus, the true balm of Gilead. Don’t let Jeremiah’s question so many years ago leave you despairing. Indeed this AM, THERE IS A BALM IN GILEAD! His name is JESUS!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m so grateful that we don’t have to go to a mastic tree in Jericho to find our healing balm. NO! On another tree on Golgotha, you spilled your precious blood that is our present-day balm of Gilead. Because of your wonderful offering right here and right now, I can be forgiven, and I can be made completely whole. So can my friend. Amen
