Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
O-bservation:
This is one of the most encouraging passages St Paul ever wrote, in my humble opinion. So many believers have a loser mentality. In referencing the athletic games of his day, Paul said that runners don’t train to lose; they train to win. He then likens it to the Christian here on earth that is running to win the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. He says, “You too should run to win the prize!”
A-pplication:
It really is a shame to watch some “Followers Of Jesus,” live such defeated lives. Many years ago, I was a traveling evangelist. Each week I would board a plane for somewhere and back within the same week. During those eighteen years, I felt it was my calling at that time to awaken the church to righteousness and call sinners to repentance. After those years, our family felt it was God’s will that we move across the country from the Northwest all the way down to the far southeastern corner of Miami, FL. At that point in my life, I felt it was my calling to encourage the church to run this Christian life in order to win. “We’re Gonna Win,” became our church’s creed! Why? Because God’s calling to his church is that we “Run To Win!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I have my eyes on the prize. All of my attention is on that prize. Nothing else is in the way of that prize. I’m ready. With your help, I will win the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus! Amen
