Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.
This teaching by Jesus came after James and John had asked Him if they could sit on either side of Him in heaven. Jesus told them that it wasn’t His place to grant such a request. He then explained that this Christian life isn’t about fame and notoriety, as the Gentile leaders lorded over the people. Greatness in God’s economy is only attained by way of SERVING others.
This response by Jesus to James and John’s request must have come as quite a shock. Jesus let them know that it would always be about SERVING for every disciple of Jesus Christ from here on and forever. Thousands of years have passed since Jesus jarred His disciples with that proclamation. What have we witnessed? We have witnessed so-called great leaders disgraced in the Christian faith because they never embraced this truth. We’ve seen denominations rise and fall because they could not embrace this truth. We’ve seen Christian universities lose the faith because they insisted their standard of scholarship was higher than that of Jesus. So here we are, and in some ways, things have changed exponentially since Jesus made this statement. In other ways, nothing has changed at all. Why? Because “It’s Still About SERVING!”
I’m here to serve you and yours! That’s it. Whatever you need, I’m ready to SERVE! Amen
