Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 81:13a
If my people would only listen to me.
O-bservation:
Here the Lord spoke to his beloved Israel and told her how much he would do for her if she would just listen to him. Because Israel refused to listen to the Lord, as a nation, Israel was always in a bind. For some reason, this nation of God didn’t want the God who had chosen her to be his people. Instead, God’s chosen people were always chasing other gods. You can hear the pathos in these words of our Lord.
A-pplication:
How many times have you done something really stupid and thought to yourself, “I should have listened to Lord instead of myself?” I know I have. When my sons were little, I would tell them what I wanted them to do. Most of the time, they were willing to obey. However, there were times when I spoke real direction into their lives, and they would do the opposite. They would always be absolutely shocked when the consequences of their choices came home to hurt them. “God’s Great Desire,” is that his people would simply listen to him. Now I know that it isn’t enough to listen to the Lord if we’re not going to obey what he says. In fact, in this case, obeying proves we’re listening. Maybe that’s why Israel didn’t LISTEN to the Lord because it wasn’t in her heart to OBEY the Lord. In time Israel was dispersed all over the globe because of her disobedience. It didn’t have to be that way, but it happened because Israel refused to give the Lord what he wanted most. Today, I’m asking you to join me and listen to what the Lord has to say to us. When he speaks, we will obey. That’s “God’s Great Desire.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m standing, ready to hear your voice. When you speak, I WILL LISTEN. Because I’m willing to listen, I’m also letting you know that I am also ready to obey. Amen
