S-cripture: Deuteronomy 17:19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees. O-bservation: These were the words of God, through Moses, His servant, concerning the future kings of Israel. Before Israel had a king, God knew that they would cry out for one because the other nations ruled in that manner. God says in the previous verse that when the king takes the throne of Israel, he must personally write out the law by his own hand, and he must keep it with him daily to rule in a humble manner pleasing to the Lord. A-pplication: Somehow this directive from the Lord sounds like He had one and only one king in mind who would keep this command. That would be David. The Bible says David was a man after God’s own heart. David writes, “He keeps God’s word in his heart that he might not sin against the Lord” (Ps. 119:11).
